Summary      
John McErleane was born in Moneyglass, Toome, County Antrim about 1880. He married Catherine McAuley on 22nd November 1909. They lived in Glenarm and went on to have two children. John was a general labourer. Private John McErleane was serving with the 8th Battalion of the Royal Dublin Fusiliers when he was killed in action in France on the 9th September 1916.

Summary      
The Thiepval Memorial will be found on the D73, next to the village of Thiepval, off the main Bapaume to Albert road (D929). Each year a major ceremony is held at the memorial on 1 July.
