Summary      
Luke O’Neill was the son of Roderick and Mary Ann O'Neill. He was born on 25th March 1894 in Portglenone. Luke O’Neill lived most of his life at Rasharkin. The family lived in Lisrodden, Lisnagarran, County Antrim. His father was a farm labourer. Luke had been working in Scotland when he enlisted in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire. Private Luke O'Neill was serving with the 1st Battalion of the Royal Irish Fusiliers when he was killed in action in France on Thursday 12th October 1916.

Summary      
The Thiepval Memorial will be found on the D73, next to the village of Thiepval, off the main Bapaume to Albert road (D929). Each year a major ceremony is held at the memorial on 1 July.
